The exhibition is dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Vasily Vereshchagin, the world-known Russian artist famous mainly for his battle pieces. The exhibition includes over 220 works from the collections of the Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery and other museums of Russia. Along with the acclaimed paintings of the Turkestan and Balkan series (1860-1880s), the exhibition will present less known landscape sketches, ethnographic portraits and genre scenes as well as graphic works.

For the first time St.Petersburg is hosting such a diverse exhibition of Dalí’s art, which includes more than 150 paintings and graphic works, provided by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in Figueres (Catalonia, Spain) and other museum and private collections.

The exhibition covers follows the artist’s creative journey, from the early surrealist landscapes of the 1930s and to the watercolor illustrations of Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Traditionally, the festival will open with a premiere. This time it’s a new version of Paquita, a significant title for St.Petersburg ballet. Instead of reviving the 19th century ballet, first performed in the Mariinsky in 1847 with choreography by Marius Petipa, Yuri Smekalov created a new ballet with his own libretto, including the famous Grand pas from Act III as choreographed by Petipa. the Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, the festival’s guest company, will present their premiere of Swan Lake.

On Saturday, 25 March 2017, WWF’s Earth Hour united the world once again. 187 countries and territories took part and over 3,000 landmarks switched off their lights. At 8:30 pm the lights of Peter and Paul Fortress, Hermitage, Smolny Cathedral, TV-tower and many other landmarks were switched off, all together 32,000 lights on over 40 buildings.

On March 24, 2017 KGallery in St.Petersburg is opening the largest exhibition of paintings and graphics of Konstantin Somov, one of the most important artists of the Silver Age and the founder of the World of Art. The works come from the Russian Museum, Brodsky Museum Apartment, Anna Akhmatova Museum, and private collectors. Somov’s works will be complemented by photos provide d by the Somov family. The exhibition will be open till May 14, 2017.

Today, March 9, 2017, is an important milestone in the preparations for the FIFA Confederations Cup as only 100 days are left before the start of the tournament. The matches will be held St.Petersburg, Moscow, Sochi and Kazan. The tournament is traditionally considered a rehearsal for the FIFE World Cup 2018. This year the tournament will open on June 17 and the finals will take place on 2 July.
