DREAMING OF SPRING EXHIBITION
Botanical Gardens of St.Petersburg invites you to visit the Dreaming of Spring exhibition on March 1-10, 2019, where you can admire a wide variety of blooming tulips as well as azaleas, Japanese camellias, cyclamens, and other flowers.
WORLD PREMIERE IN THE MARIINSKY THEATRE
On February 26, 2019 Rodion Shchedrin’s Commemoration Mass for chorus a cappella, written in the memory of Maya Plisetskaya, was performed in the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.
ICE FESTIVAL IN RUSKEALA
Ice Festival in the Underground Ruskeala will take place on February 19-21 on the ice-bound lake. Due to the unique climate of this marble mine, visitors will be able to admire the ice figures in between stalactites and stalagmites until May.
FEODOR CHALIAPIN’S BIRTHDAY
Feodor Chaliapin, the world-famous Russian basso, was born on February 13, 1873. Possessing a deep and expressive bass voice, he enjoyed an important international career at major opera houses. His vivid declamation, great resonance, and dynamic acting made him the best-known singer-actor of his time.
ANNA PAVLOVA’S BIRTHDAY
Anna Pavlova, the world-famous Russian prima ballerina of the late 19th and the early 20th centuries, was born on February 12, 1881. She was a principal artist of the Imperial Russian Ballet and the Ballets Russes of Sergei Diaghilev and, with her own company, became the first ballerina to tour ballet around the world.

On January 27 St.Petersburg commemorated the victims of the Siege of Leningrad which lasted from September 8, 1941 till January 27, 1944. It was 75 years ago when the Nazi troops were defeated and the Siege of Leningrad finally ended.
