Opera tour in St. Petersburg

OPERA TOUR IN ST.PETERSBURG is designed for those who love and admire opera. It gives an opportunity not only to attend opera performances and get backstage, but also to marvel at the highlights of St.Petersburg.

DAY 1

Upon arrival in St.Petersburg you will be taken to your hotel.

DAY 2

You will begin this day with the guided city tour including Nevsky Prospect, the main street of the city, the Square of Fine Arts, St.Isaac’s Cathedral, the fourth largest domed cathedral in the world. You will also go to Peter and Paul Fortress, the birthplace of St.Petersburg, and visit St.Peter and Paul’s cathedral, the burial place of Russian Emperors from Peter the Great to Nicholas II. You will have the afternoon at leisure to explore the city on your own. In the evening you will enjoy an opera performance in Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre. DAY 3

This morning you will have the backstage tour of Mikhailovsky Theatre, during which you will learn about the history of the building and visit the backstage and the museum of Mikhailovsky Theatre. After an independent lunch in a local café you will have a guided tour of the Hermitage museum, one the world’s largest art museums, possessing over 3 million exhibits. During the tour you will see the lavishly-decorated reception quarters of the Winter Palace, the highlights of the Old Masters’ Collection (Leonardo da Vinci, Rafael, Rembrandt) and Impressionists’ and Post-Impressionists’ collection. Duration: 6 hours

DAY 4

After breakfast you will drive to Tsarskoe Selo where you will have a guided visit of Catherine’s Palace, the largest summer palace of the Russian Royal family, famous for the splendor of its Baroque interiors, including the Gold Rooms and the unique Amber Room, the 8th wonder of the world. After the tour you will have time at leisure, followed by an evening opera performance in Mikhailovsky (Mussorgsky) Theatre. Duration: tour 4 hours; car to/from the theatre

DAY 5

You will start the day with a visit to the Necropolis of St. Alexander Nevsky Lavra, where famous Russian composers and the founder of Russian classical ballet school, the choreographer M.Petipat, are buried. After that you will have a tour of Rimsky-Korsakov Apartment Museum, where the famous Russian composer created 11 out of 15 operas. This evening you will enjoy an opera performance in Mariinsky Theatre. Duration: tour 4 hours; car to/from the theatre

DAY 6

This day you will say good-bye to St.Petersburg and will be transferred to the airport.

This tour might not be conducted in August and September when opera companies are on tours.
