XVIII International Festival “Arts Square”

Will take place in the Grand Philharmonics Hall in St. Petersburg on December 14-23, 2017. The opening concert will be devoted to the 135th anniversary of St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra conducted by maestro Yuri Temirkanov will perform Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky. One of the highlights of the Festival is

“The Moor’s Pavane” a choreographic fantasy on the theme of Shakespeare’s tragedy “Othello” by Henry Purcell with Farukh Ruzimatov as a soloist.

This festival of Light is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the 1917 October Revolution. An epic laser painting relating to the events of 1917 will be projected onto the façade of the General Staff building. Winter Palace façade will host light installations battle of five teams competing for the best illustration of a song about St.Petersburg. For the first time 3D-mappings will be projected onto the Cruiser Aurora, they will present the cruiser’s history. The festival will culminate with fireworks display.

Fabergé Museum is preparing an exhibition devoted to Amedeo Modigliani, the legendary Italian artist, and other representatives of the Paris School, including Maurice Utrillo, Moïse Kisling, Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain. The exhibition will open on November 25 and will work till March 25.

While New Year in Russia is celebrated on January 1, Indian New Year falls on the traditional Diwali lights festival in autumn, and it will be also celebrated in St.Petersburg, on October 28, in the Polytechnic University White Hall at 6 pm. Founded in 1977, Manege Exhibition Hall is celebrating its 40th anniversary, hence the exhibition presents the diversity of art in the 1970’s, when underground art was flourishing along with official ideologically correct one.  The title of the exhibition refers to the title of Andrei Yakovlev’s painting.

The exhibition at the Russian Museum is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the 1917 October Revolution. Then, at the beginning of the 20th century, Russia faced radical social changes. The exhibition is aimed at presenting the complicated and multisided situation of the period and features around 100 paintings, complemented by historic documents and literary works of poets and writers of the period.

Tonight, on August 18, 2017 Choral Art Chorus from Portland (Maine, USA) will perform in St.Mary’s Lutheran Church in St.Petersburg. Founded in 1972 by singers committed to excellence in choral performance, The Choral Art Society today comprises three ensembles. The 30-voice ChoralArt Ensemble that will tour Estonia, Finland, and Russia in August 2017 comprises singers from all three groups. Music Director Robert Russell joined The Choral Art Society in 1979.

Yesterday, on August 15, 2017 Choral Art Chorus from Portland (Maine, USA) performed in St.Nicholas Lutheran Church in Gatchina. The church was absolutely full, and the audience warmly welcomed the singers. The program included Mass in G by Schubert, accompanied by the organ, and traditional spirituals and hymns.
